HOW IS A SUSTAINABLE SURFBOARD MADE?
Our wooden surfboards are made using an innovative, environmentally conscious construction process.
This cutting-edge method for creating truly sustainable surfboards leverages the best qualities of natural and low-impact materials through brand-new technologies.
They are designed for durability and longevity, while employing minimal nasty ingredients.
All boards meet ECOBOARD’s Gold Level: the highest mark for sustainability in the surf industry.

CNC SHAPED
ULTRA-LIGHT EPS
Lower density EPS aids buoyancy
and all waste is recycled.
20MM PARABOLIC
PLYWOOD RAILS
Framing the foam core, provide
epic strength against snapping.

FIN BOXES ANCHORED IN SOLID WOOD

VERDURE SURF
Pretty Good’s surfboard blanks are crafted by Verdure Surfboards in New Zealand.
Verdure have been developing and refining sustainable surfboard manufacturing for over a decade, with an incredible track record for durability, performance and customer satisfaction.

ORGANIC HEMP &
ECO-FRIENDLY RESIN
The core is laminated with organic hemp cloth using an environmentally friendly bio-resin.
This step both seals the foam and solidifies
the internal structure.

3MM PAULOWNIA
VENEER SHEETS
Deck and hull are covered with
locally sourced Paulownia.
VENTED WOOD
LEASH PLUG
Solid Spotted Gum and Gore-Tex fabric, keeps internal pressure even.

LOW-VOC
NATURAL COATINGS
Finally, the board is coated with a Hardwax-Oil clear coat.
This natural, renewable sealant is extremely light, durable, doesn’t increase stiffness and is easier on the environment.
It won’t yellow & appear aged, like a regular foam/glass board does. And it’s also really easy (for anyone) to reapply, meaning boards can stay in top condition for longer.

PLASTIC-FREE PACKAGING
Do you also hate it when a package arrives wrapped in endless layers of bubble wrap and plastic tape?
All boards are delivered in individually fitted handmade boxes. Completely plastic-free and 100% recyclable (or totally reusable).
Designed to help the board make it’s journey safe and sound, without any unnecessary bad stuff being used.

Individually fitted boxes are cut by hand from locally sourced high quality 4mm corrugated cardboard sheets and secured with layers of recyclable paper tape.
Internally, each board is kept safe and snug with a collection of custom impact protection and spacing structures. The board itself is placed in a hand-made natural fibre bag to avoid any scuffing.

Unfortunately, there is still plastic involved in the production of these surfboards:
composite fin boxes and EPS foam.
The aim is that in the near-future these plastic items can be replaced with better alternatives - PLA foam and wooden fin boxes ideally. Then the product and packaging can be entirely plastic-free!
